Perini Navi Group has announced the delivery of sailing yacht Clan VIII. The 45m sloop was launched on 6 September 2011.
Clan VIII is the result of ongoing collaboration between Ron Holland Design and Perini Navi’s design team. She is the fourth of the steel-hulled 45-metre series delivered by the Perini Navi Group.
Notable features include her spacious flybridge and the opening stern, which reveals a structural staircase descending to a swimming platform. There is also a lateral opening shell door on the yacht’s port side.
The mast, also built by Perini Navi, rises 52 metres above the waterline and the vessel carries an upwind sail area of almost 900 m2. The centreboard affords a draught of 3.9m up to 8.75m down. Perini Navi says her appendages – including a rudder with a relatively high-aspect ratio – and large sail area provide ‘the best possible sailing performance’.
Her Caterpillar C32 820kW diesel main engine gives Clan VIII a 13.5 knot speed under power.
The interior of Clan VIII is designed in-house by the Perini Navi design department, using ebony and teak to achieve an ‘elegant ambiance’. Inspiration for the design is cited as a ‘classical yet contemporary allure.’
The delivery of Clan VIII marks the 53rd vessel in the Perini Navi fleet. The group has had a busy 2011, which has seen two superyachts delivered – 56m Fidelis and 55m motoryacht Galileo G – and two contracts signed for Perini’s new line of 60 metre yachts. Seven further superyachts are also in the pipeline for delivery over the period 2012 to 2014.
