My friend, John Horton, a marine artist based in Vancouver, BC and known for recreating historical moments on canvas, has just completed a painting of the Great Clipper Ship period.
This artwork reminds me of stories of the great sailing race from China to London in 1866. The story goes, that after 3 months at sea Ariel and Typing raced up the English Channel almost overlapped to secure the profitable ‘First Tea of the Season Prize’.
This is real sailing ship racing!
