Please join us for an entertaining evening with guest speaker Ron Holland, the world’s leading yacht designer and creator of a new generation of 100′ plus performance superyachts.  And yes, they come in sail or power so there’s something here for everyone.
Event will be held in the BYC Clubhouse. Bar opens at 6:30p and we’ll be introducing Ron at 7pm. Admission to this event is complimentary and members are welcome to bring a guest.
Ron was born in Auckland, New Zealand. Ron’s love for sailing began at an early age. He developed from a boat building apprentice at 16 years of age to one of today’s leading international yacht designers.
Ron’s first boat was a 7 foot ‘P Class’ sailing dinghy given to him by his parents for his 7th birthday. By the time he was 16 he was a proficient and experienced offshore sailor having sailed to Australia aboard the 37ft ketch Aloha at 15 years of age.
Ron soon realized that boats were to be his ‘thing’ and after he obtained an apprenticeship with well known New Zealand boat builder Keith Atkinson, based in Brown’s Bay on Auckland’s North Shore, Ron quickly realized he was drawn more towards designing boats than building them. He has a natural aptitude for designing sailing yachts.
Ron has designed and raced many yachts over the years from the 8m masthead sloop White Rabbit, he designed during his boat building apprenticeship, to a new generation of 100ft plus performance and superyachts, the largest ‘Mirabella V’ (now ‘M5’ at 78 metres) is the biggest single mast yacht in the world.
Ron moved his Studio to Vancouver in 2012 and will be celebrating the 40th anniversary of Ron Holland Design in 2014.
